Getting Around Cardiff
Cardiff is well-served by an extensive bus network and a local rail network that provides services linking much of Cardiff to the city centre and mainline rail services.
By Car It's easy to reach Cardiff from all parts of the UK and beyond due to our good road, rail, bus and air links. Located on the M4 corridor, Cardiff is easily accessible by car and is well-served by rail services too, with frequent services to and from London and the East, as well as trains linking Cardiff to the rest of the UK. Regular bus and rail services link the centre of Cardiff to the valleys and the South East Wales region. Once you've arrived in Cardiff it's easy to get around. It's such a compact city that most visitors find it easy to do on foot. But if you're not in the mood for walking there are good public transport links around the city, particularly between the city centre and the Bay. For a really different view of the city don't miss the open-topped sightseeing bus and the water bus.
Airport Cardiff international Airport is situated in Rhoose, 12 miles west of Cardiff City Centre and 10 miles from Junction 33 on the M4. Exit at Junction 33 and follow the A4232. Take the first exit off the A4232 at Culverhouse Cross and follow signs to the airport along the A4050 and A4226. For satellite navigation systems, our postcode is CF62 3BD.
Public Transportation A Capital Transport Guide has been produced by Cardiff Council and is available from various outlets within Cardiff. These include Cardiff Bus Sales Offices (Wood Street), local libraries, County Hall and the Visitor Centre. The guide is free of charge and provides details on bus, train and coach services as well as descriptions of places of interest and how to get there. Cardiff is well served by an extensive network of bus services. The majority of local bus services in Cardiff are operated by Cardiff Bus, with most services operating to/from the Central Bus Station located next to the Central Rail Station.
Taxis Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles are seen as playing an important role in the provision of public transport. All taxis have roof top signs and equipped with a meter where the tariff is set by the Council. Taxis can be caught at designated stands or hailed in the street. Private hire vehicles do not have a roof sign and must be pre-booked. They cannot be hailed in the street or picked up at a stand. The fares for private hire vehicles are not controlled by the Council.
