Sports and Recreation
Millennium Stadium, an international sporting venue, seats 74,500 and hosts the Welsh rugby team and the Welsh national football team. In 1999, the Rugby Union World Cup was held at Millennium Stadium and the World Rally Championships were held here in September 2005. The stadium also holds music concerts, festivals, meetings, and other events.
Cardiff is a proud Capital of Sport boasting over 600 sports clubs and a rapidly developing network of facilities that will enable Cardiff to position themselves along with the prestigious sporting cities of the world.
There are literally thousands of coaches and volunteers running sport and activity clubs, courses and sessions throughout the City across a range of sports. Sport.Cardiff are committed to the development of sport and physical activity through the employment of development officers and a network of partnerships including: The Sports Council for Wales, Welsh Assembly Government and National Governing Bodies for Sport.
If rugby union is your sport, the Cardiff Blues are part of the Celtic League and play at the Cardiff Arms Park. For rugby league, the Cardiff Demons also play locally. The Cardiff Bluebirds play professional football at Ninian Park. County Cricket matches are held at Sophia Gardens ground, and the Cardiff Devils are the ice-hockey team to watch.
